Meet the Guest Speakers

  • Phil is an internationally recognized crop management expert known for helping producers achieve European-level yields in U.S. farming systems. After being recruited from England to introduce wheat management strategies, his work helped double Kentucky’s average wheat yield over two decades. With a proven track record of transforming crop performance, Phil brings practical experience and innovative ideas that resonate with growers looking to push their operations forward.

    Today, Phil conducts around 70 seminars and equipment clinics each year, sharing high-impact strategies that boost yields, improve efficiency, and increase profitability.

  • Mike Toohill is a seasoned agronomist and crop consultant based in Bloomington, Illinois, bringing over three decades of agricultural expertise to growers across the Midwest. A Certified Crop Advisor since 1994, Mike has become a trusted source of insight for Brownfield Ag News, Farm Progress, Strategic Farm Marketing, agmarket.net, and WLDS Jacksonville radio. His ability to clearly explain agronomics, market influences, and weather impacts has made him a respected and recognizable voice within the industry.

    He has 7 years experience in retail (fertilizer, chemicals, and seed), 17 years experience as a seed agronomist, and 13 years experience in crop insurance. This experience allows him to connect agronomic decisions with economics and real-world decisions on the farm.

  • Dr. Rodrigo Werle is an Associate Professor and Extension Cropping Systems Weed Scientist at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he leads the WiscWeeds program—one of the Midwest’s most influential sources of research-driven weed management strategies. His work focuses on practical, integrated solutions for managing weeds in corn, soybean, and small-grain systems, helping growers stay ahead of herbicide resistance and shifting weed pressures.

    A dynamic and sought-after speaker, Dr. Werle has presented at major events across the country, including the Southern Illinois Fertilizer and Pesticide Conference. Known for translating complex research into actionable, farm-ready insights, he equips producers and agronomists with tools to improve weed control, protect yield, and strengthen long-term profitability.
